## About Everywhere

Everywhere is fast file search for the Mac: start typing and the answer is already on screen. It quietly keeps track of every file on your Mac, including documents, photos, downloads, mail attachments and the backup drive you unplugged last week. Every result has keyboard actions, and nothing leaves your Mac.

Key Features

Finds what other searches miss: attachments inside Mail, originals inside the Photos library, and files on drives you have unplugged, shown dimmed with the name of the drive to go and plug in.

Results as you type: the first keystroke answers in under 10 ms on a Mac with six million files, and each letter after that narrows what the last one found instead of starting again.

Quick to set up: it catalogues six million files in about 31 seconds, and you can start searching before it finishes. Six million files fit in about 308 MB.

Search syntax when you want it: plain typing finds things by name. A few short words narrow it down, such as ext:pdf for a file type, size:>100mb, path:Downloads, a vertical bar for either, and an exclamation mark for not. The app suggests them as you type, so there is nothing to memorise.

Keyboard first: press Option-Space to open it from anywhere, over any app, even full screen. Move through the results with the arrow keys, press Return to open, Command-Return to reveal in Finder, Space for Quick Look, copy the full path, or move a file to the Trash. Press Escape and you are back where you were.

Works offline: it works with Wi-Fi off, and nothing leaves your Mac.

How it works

Every filename is held in one long list in memory with a small table of details beside it, so there is no database to open and no index to rebuild before it can answer. Searching sweeps that list across every processor core your Mac has.
