Orkas is an open-source, local-first desktop AI workforce designed for people who need to turn a goal into finished work without managing every step manually. A lead agent called the Commander converts the goal into an executable plan, then coordinates specialist agents in parallel or sequence through one chat.
The workflow can cover research, coding, data analysis, documents, presentations, video, and other complex tasks. Instead of acting as a single-purpose chatbot, Orkas organizes the work, delegates suitable parts, and brings results back into the same desktop workspace. This makes it useful for founders, builders, researchers, and small teams handling multi-step projects.
Local-first means chats, files, project history, and knowledge material stay on the user's device by default. Users may use managed official models or connect their own providers, and calls to user-selected providers follow those providers' own data paths. The open-source edition also supports compatible local model endpoints.
Orkas is available as a desktop application and its source code is published on GitHub. The product is suited to anyone who wants a transparent, extensible way to coordinate multiple AI specialists while retaining direct control over project context and provider choices. Its focus is practical output: turning a conversation into plans, delegated tasks, and usable deliverables rather than leaving the user to combine disconnected AI tools manually.
