Most dog-friendly listings lie to you. They mean a damp patio, a water bowl by the door, and a staff member who would rather you left and went somewhere else. Paws Inside lists cafés, restaurants, pubs, shops, and stays where your dog is welcome inside. Through the front door. At the table. Not banished to the cold.
We started the project in New Zealand after too many brunches spent hovering in doorways, leash in hand, asking the same tired question: are dogs allowed inside? It began as a spreadsheet tracking places that did not give us grief. Bentley, our miniature poodle and unofficial chief taste-tester, has been to most of the places on the map. If a venue sends him outside or makes you do the awkward dance, it does not get listed. Inside means inside.
Every entry is checked by people who actually bring a dog. We care about the small stuff: did someone bring a water bowl without being asked, is there room for a medium-sized dog under the table, do the staff look pleased or panicked when a wet spaniel walks in. Photos, reviews, and plain notes help you decide before you leave the house.
Browse by location on the map. Filter when you want a quiet bookshop afternoon or a rowdy pub Sunday. Venue pages show addresses, opening hours, and the kind of detail you cannot get from a Google pin that says "pet friendly" with no further explanation. You should know what you are walking into before you get there.
The list is hand-picked, not scraped. We would rather have fewer venues we trust than thousands of maybe-okay spots that waste your Saturday. Quality over volume, every time. When a place treats dogs well, we want you to find it. When it does not, we want it off the list.
Spot somewhere we missed? Suggest a venue and we will go check it. The directory grows because real people had a good time somewhere and told us about it. Dog owners know which cafés keep a spare bowl behind the counter. We want that knowledge on the map.
Paws Inside is free to use. Open the map, pick a neighbourhood, and go. We built it for dog owners who are done guessing, and for the venues that actually want them there. Walk in. Order the flat white. Let your dog lie down. No doorway pause required. That is the whole point.
