Press Command-L and a soft screen slides shut over everything on every display.

Shoji is a privacy screen for your Mac. Press Command-L and a soft screen slides shut over everything on every display. Touch ID slides it open again, with every window exactly where you left it. The macOS lock screen puts your Mac to sleep and shuffles your windows; Shoji just draws a screen over everything, so your music keeps playing, your downloads keep going and your windows stay put.
Key Features
Lock Mac (Command-L): every display and every app behind one screen. The keyboard belongs to the lock, so nothing anyone types reaches your apps. Touch ID or your Mac password opens it.
Blur Screen: one shortcut softens everything at once, no password needed, and Escape brings it straight back.
Focus Blur: only the window you are using stays sharp. Everything behind it softens and follows you as you switch.
Private Apps: Messages, Slack and Mail stay blurred unless you are the one using them. Hold Option over one to peek without switching.
App Lock (Option-Command-L): lock just the app in front, so your notes stay locked while you hand your Mac over for a demo.
Built to hold
If anything closes Shoji while your Mac is locked, even Force Quit, a small guard turns on the macOS lock before your desktop can show. After the time you choose, Shoji also hands off to the real macOS lock. A monitor plugged in while locked is covered the moment it wakes. Each wrong password waits a little longer, and you see every failed try when you come back.
Privacy
The blur is drawn by macOS itself. Shoji never captures your screen and never reads what is in your windows, so it needs no macOS permissions. There is no account and no analytics.
Use Cases
Work in a cafe, on a plane or in a shared room without people reading over your shoulder. Step away from your desk without your windows moving. Hand your Mac over for a demo with your private apps locked.
Getting Started
Download Shoji for Mac (macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel), press Command-L on your way out, and use Touch ID to come back.
