Moodly

Moodly is a free Chrome extension for people who collect visual references while they browse. If you gather inspiration faster than you can organize it — screenshots piling up in a downloads folder, links buried in a notes app, tabs you keep open because closing them feels like losing something — Moodly is built for you.

The capture step is deliberately almost invisible. Hover any image on any website and a small Save button appears; click it and the image is on your board. Right-click any link and save it the same way. There is no dialog asking which board, no tagging step, no metadata form standing between you and the thing you just decided to keep. Anything that requires a decision happens after the save, never before it. That single rule is why Moodly keeps up with how people actually browse.

Saved items land on boards you can rearrange, group and preview as a grid, in Masonry, Bento or Grid layouts. Links are saved as rich cards carrying their title, favicon and preview image, so a board of references reads like a board and not like a list of URLs. Images get their colour palettes extracted automatically into editable, persisted swatches, which turns a pile of references into something you can pull a direction out of.

The feature designers care about most is what happens when a board is finished. Moodly copies an entire board into Figma as real, editable layers — matching your on-screen layout, columns, spacing and corner radius exactly. No plugin to install, no export and re-import round trip, no flattened screenshot to trace over. You copy in the browser, you paste on the Figma canvas, and everything arrives as proper layers you can edit immediately. That single step removes the most tedious part of moving from research into design work: rebuilding a reference board by hand before you can begin.

Everything is stored locally in your browser. There is no account to create, no server holding your boards, and no tracking of any kind. The only network requests Moodly makes fetch a title and preview image for a link you explicitly chose to save. That is not a privacy footnote bolted on at the end — it is the constraint the product was designed around, and it is why there is no signup wall between installing Moodly and using it. Your references are yours, they live on your machine, and they keep working whether or not anyone is running a server somewhere.

Typical uses: collecting competitor screenshots before a redesign, gathering type and colour references for a brand direction, saving product pages and articles as a linkboard for ongoing research, assembling a visual brief to share with a client, or simply keeping the good things you find instead of losing them in a downloads folder.
