Dofollow Backlinks for New Startups: What Launch Platforms Actually Give You (2026)

Launch platforms give new startups dofollow backlinks in four ways: you earn one by ranking in a daily or weekly top 3 (often with their badge on your site), you trade one for a badge or link back, you pay for a premium slot that guarantees it, or a community site leaves ranked links followed by default, as Hacker News did on the day I checked. Most free launches today are nofollow until one of those conditions is met. A dofollow link from a launch platform is a small signal, not a ranking plan, and paid or swapped ones carry a risk under Google's link spam policy that you should weigh before paying.

This guide is for founders who keep seeing "dofollow backlink" on launch site pricing pages and want to know what they are actually buying. Every rule below was read from the platform's own page on 4 November 2026. Disclosure: Aura++ (this site), EarlyHunt, IndieHunt, MakerHunt, SideHunt and Uno Directory are owned by Praneet Brar, and they appear below with the same caveats as everyone else.

What is a dofollow backlink, in one paragraph?

"Dofollow" is not a real HTML value. It is shorthand for a normal link with no nofollow, sponsored or ugc in its rel attribute. Google's guide to qualifying outbound links explains those three values. A followed link can count as a vote for your page; a nofollow link still sends visitors but asks search engines not to count it that way.

What do launch platforms actually give you?

Here is what each platform's own page said, plus the one I checked in the page source. "Not checked on a live listing" means I am quoting the pricing page, not confirming it on a real launch.

Read the pattern, not the logos. Free and followed by default is now rare among launch sites. Almost every followed link is earned through rank, traded for a badge, or bought.

What are the four ways to get a dofollow link from a launch?

1. Earned by rank

You launch free and the link turns followed only if you finish in the top spots. This is the cleanest of the four, because the link reflects real interest. It is also the least predictable: on a busy day you may not place.

2. Traded for a badge

You put the platform's badge, with a link back, on your site, and it follows your link in return. One or two badges from boards you really launched on are ordinary. A footer full of them is a link exchange pattern.

3. Paid premium slot

You pay for a guaranteed followed link, usually bundled with a chosen date, homepage time or extras. The date and the visitors can be worth the money. The link on its own is where the policy risk sits.

4. Followed by default

Some communities leave links followed once a post ranks. You cannot buy that, and it can change at any time, so treat it as a bonus.

What does Google say about paid and swapped links?

This is the caveat most launch pricing pages leave out, ours included. Google's spam policies list "buying or selling links for ranking purposes" and "excessive link exchanges" as link spam, and say paid links are fine when marked rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow". A guaranteed followed link you paid for, or one you got for a badge, fits that wording.

In practice:

• Pay for a launch because of the audience, the date or the time saved. If the link is the only reason, skip it.

• Keep it small: a handful of launches on platforms that fit your product, not dozens bought in a week.

• Do not buy "dofollow backlink packages" from sites you would never launch on.

How much is one launch backlink worth?

Honestly, not much on its own. A launch page is one page among thousands on that site, and its text about you is short. What tends to matter more for a new startup is the visitors the launch sends, the reviews and mentions that follow, and having pages of your own that explain clearly what you do. Domain Rating gets quoted on every pricing page; Aura++ has a plain explainer on what Domain Rating measures and what it does not.

How do you get dofollow backlinks from launches without wasting money?

1. Pick two or three platforms whose visitors match your buyers.

2. Launch free first where you have a fair shot at the top spots, and show up to answer comments.

3. Pay only where a chosen date or extra visibility is worth the price by itself.

4. After the launch, check the actual rel on your listing. Our free dofollow link checker reads the page's server HTML and shows every link to your domain with its rel value. If the platform renders the link with JavaScript, inspect it in the browser instead.

5. Write down the date and result. Link types change when rankings or badge checks change.

A made-up example: Priya and Ledgerly

Priya launched Ledgerly, a bookkeeping helper for freelancers, on one daily board and one weekly board for free. She placed top 3 on the weekly board and added its badge, so that link turned followed; the daily board link stayed nofollow. She paid for one premium slot later, for a relaunch date that matched a newsletter feature, not for the link. Her best signup source ended up being the nofollow listing. The story and numbers are invented; the lesson is to judge each launch by what it sends you.

FAQ

Which launch platforms give dofollow backlinks to startups?

Most offer one under conditions: top-3 finishes, a badge, an upvote threshold or a paid tier. See the table for what each page said on 4 November 2026.

Are dofollow backlinks from launch sites safe?

Earned ones are. Paid or badge-swapped followed links fall under Google's link spam wording unless marked sponsored or nofollow, so keep them few and buy for the audience.

How do I get dofollow backlinks for free?

Rank in a launch's top spots, earn a mention in a roundup or article, or post where ranked links stay followed. All take effort rather than money.

Do dofollow backlinks improve rankings?

They can be one signal among many. No launch link guarantees a ranking.

Buy the launch, not the link

Dofollow backlinks for new startups mostly come with a condition: rank, a badge or a payment. Choose launches for the people they reach, treat the link as a bonus, and check what you actually got afterwards.
